Four-Course Meal | #04

Did Zoë Kravitz just make iced lattés chic?

By Ally Quirk

Four-course meal is a repeating fashion segment served in four decadent courses. Your reservation is confirmed, and your head chef est moi. Each installation is a set menu with ingredients in season — think awards shows, vintage finds, fashion news, celebrity style, et plus. Bon appétit!

Welcome back to Four-Course Meal! I am so excited to dine with you today. Throughout this culinary journey, we will be reveling in the delights of a very recreatable celebrity street style moment, your summer accessory Rx is in, and some fashion food for thought. Dare I say, a Michelin-worthy menu not even The Bear can live up to (and much less yelling — you’re welcome).

Hors D’oeuvre

Let’s cut to the chase — sun protection is chic. I’ll scream it from the rooftops. My hats for spring movement has trickled its way into summertime, because I am not messing around when it comes to sun protection. My SPF? Lathered. The brim of my hat? Wide. Feast your eyes on the images below to prove my point — sun protection is stylish as hell. Hats can be an overlooked accessory, and I am here to advocate for their importance. A hat can make the most basic of outfits interesting, and you won’t feel guilty buying them because it’s literally on par with a medical prescription.

Appetizer

Fresh off her Emmy nomination, Zoë Kravitz was spotted on a 90-degree NYC day wearing the ‘fit of the summer — vintage tee (that no doubt cost $300+ from the LES’s Procell), tiny track shorts, kitten heels, a YSL bag so sturdy you could easily knock someone out with it, blacked out sunnies and diamonds on diamonds. This outfit tickles my brain just right. Not to mention her iced latte in hand, which truly took me aback. Even Zoë Kravitz isn’t too chic to resist the utter splendor of an iced latte on a hot summer’s day. I feel seen.

Main Course

Inspired by a recent/shameless Emma Chamberlain watch, I’ve been dressing up more, even if I have nothing going on or no plans until the evening. Comme moi, Emma’s daily routine is primarily spent at home, so she favors comfort over style on the day-to-day. In the video, she experiments with swapping out her bathrobe and slippers for cute outfits at home, a slightly more luxe sweat set for her pilates class, and dolls herself up just to run errands, all in the hope of feeling a little more confident and put together.

So far, I’d say dressing up more (for seemingly no reason sometimes) has given me a little confidence boost and has also helped me experiment with my clothes and utilize more of my closet. For instance, I have a sundress from Réalisation Par that has gone untouched for many months. I run a tight ship over here, so it was time for the little zebra number to shit or get off the pot. Either I was going to style her, or start writing the Depop listing. That day, I tamed my hair and put on some tinted SPF, and I was just as comfortable as I’d be in a t-shirt and bike shorts like a normal day; I just felt a lot cuter. I went for walks with Nel, ran errands, and went to the bookstore. That was it! I felt romcom-y walking out of the bookstore carrying my purchases2 as my skirt blew in the breeze. I’m going to keep it up this week and wear an actual outfit every day, even if it’s just to the grocery store. I’ll report back next time with any takeaways on confidence or perhaps a newfound main character complex. Time will tell.

Dessert

I’m really into this style of sunglasses this summer. I’ve been seeing them everywhere online, certainly yet to hit the mean streets of Boston. I like how big they are and how they can edge up a simple outfit. I love my tiny oval Jimmy Fairlys, but maybe it’s time they gain a bigger, edgier sister.

And with that, our meal comes to a close. I hope you’re feeling satisfied, with a belly full of fashion. We should totally do this again sometime!
